The Cachalote Explorer, originally a fishing boat built in 1988 in Vancouver, is a spacious motor yacht converted to a passenger yacht in the early 2000’s and was relaunched in Galapagos in August 2018. Although it doesn’t look particularly sleek, the fact that it was built for the rough waters of the Canadian West Coast means this will provide a smoother than normal ride for boats of this size in Galapagos. The Cachalote Explorer is operated by a very good local company with strong itineraries and works with excellent naturalist guides which is really what sets it apart from other yachts in this category and why we rate it. Crew are very friendly and helpful. Eight cabins all with air conditioning, private bathrooms and hot showers.
