The altitude within the reserve drastically changes from 950 meters to 1650 meters above sea level. In addition the isolation of the region has created one of the most delicate, but rich and complex ecosystems known in the Mindo region. Septimo Paraiso is located at just one and a half hours from Quito near the village of Mindo. Offering comfortable accommodation, good service and good food, it sits in its own 420 hectare reserve of pre-montane and montane cloud forest which has 322 species of birds.
Septimo Paraiso has a beautiful reserve boasting 322 species of birds. There are great trails where you can see fascinating birds such as Scaled Antpitta, Esmeraldas Antbird, Rufous-breasted Antthrush, Narino Tapaculo, if you are patient to look for them in the undergrowth. If you prefer the more colourful birds the gardens around the lodge are the perfect place to look for Golden-headed Quetzals, a great variety of Tanagers and with luck, even a Common Potoo will be roosting nearby. If you want to rest you can hang around the Hummingbird feeders to watch the gorgeous colours of the many species found here. Septimo Paraiso is also located close to the Tandayapa and Mindo Valley areas, amongst the best birding sites in the North West.
Rooms22 Rooms, a combination of singles, doubles, triples and suites all with private bathroom and hot water from their own spring. La Chorrera Bar-Restaurant is a country style restaurant which offers a mixture of Ecuadorean and international cuisine. The lodge also has a café with coffee and homemade cakes as well as a bar with a pool table, darts, satellite TV and a large selection of wines. Heated outdoor pool and Jacuzzi, and a small gym.
