Insider Knowledge

Septimo Paraiso Cloud Forest Reserve is a private protected area, created in 2001, with the aim of saving and preserving the forest and the diverse ecosystems that are contained within it. The reserve is managed by the Green Mindo Foundation, which is in charge of its conservation and ongoing studies. They are actively reforesting pastures and are working with Rainforest Alliance in their Good Management Practices Programme.

Birding

Septimo Paraiso has a beautiful reserve boasting 322 species of birds. There are great trails where you can see fascinating birds such as Scaled Antpitta, Esmeraldas Antbird, Rufous-breasted Antthrush, Narino Tapaculo, if you are patient to look for them in the undergrowth. If you prefer the more colourful birds the gardens around the lodge are the perfect place to look for Golden-headed Quetzals, a great variety of Tanagers and with luck, even a Common Potoo will be roosting nearby. If you want to rest you can hang around the Hummingbird feeders to watch the gorgeous colours of the many species found here. Septimo Paraiso is also located close to the Tandayapa and Mindo Valley areas, amongst the best birding sites in the North West. Download the complete Bird List for Septimo Paraiso.
