About Hacienda Cusin

Nestled in Ecuador’s Northern Andes, around 20 minutes away from the famous Otavalo market, Hacienda Cusin is one of Ecuador’s oldest haciendas and was converted into a charming country house hotel in 1990, preserving its history and ambience. The terracotta tile roofs, winding cobblestone pathways, courtyards and perennial gardens all add to the charm. There are 43 cosy rooms, suites and cottages, all with garden and snow-capped mountain views. The individually styled rooms have log-burning fireplaces, high-beamed ceilings and fine Andean Craft furnishings. There is also a bar, dining room and two acres of beautiful gardens.

Insider Knowledge

Hacienda Cusin was purchased at an auction from Philip III, King of Spain by the prominent Luna family in 1602. The purchased estate, an abraje or sheep farm, comprised of two valleys of Gualaví and La Rinconada, and all the land between the valleys and the lake, approximately 100,000 acres/50,000 hectares, held until Land Reforms in 1945 and 1964.

As an authentic hacienda, it doesn’t have lots of mod cons in the rooms, and they aren’t overly luxurious however they are very comfortable and very charming. Each individually decorated guest room comes with a log burning fireplace, antiques and/or local handicraft furnishings, armchairs, writing desk and with either a garden or mountain view.

Food & Drink

With hearty, healthy, simple but nonetheless special options, the waiter-served breakfasts, lunches and dinners combine the best of Ecuadorian cuisine and international classics. To a backdrop of the splendid dining room, cosy Salón Simón Bolivar or bar, sometimes with live music performed by one of our talented waiters, distinguished guests come together to feast, celebrate life and enjoy the fine wines of the worldliest kind of home.
