This lovely hotel has a great location by the ocean away from the hustle and bustle of town, with beautiful views across the bay of Puerto Ayora. As its name suggests, it is right on the water’s edge and if you want to go to town, water taxis will take you from their private pier, 24 hours a day. Owned and managed by Teppy Angermeyer, member of one of the oldest and best known families in the Galapagos, the whole hotel has been recently refurbished throughout using materials such as lava rocks and drift wood to create a unique atmosphere and the feeling of being close to nature. The rooms are clean, bright and airy. Marine iguanas and sea lions are regular parts of the scenery at this tranquil waterfront hotel and one of the highlights is breakfast on the sun terrace in the company of marine iguanas, blue footed boobies or one of Darwin’s finches. The only access to the hotel is by water taxi from the municipal dock in Puerto Ayora; these leave constantly and are very good value.

As well as seeing Marine Iguanas and Sally Lightfoot crabs both beaches are great for relaxing and snorkelling. It is also a short walk from Las Grietas, spectacular saltwater grottoes with high lava walls that are popular for snorkelling. You are also less than five minutes away in a water taxi from Puerto Ayora, with its shops, bars and the Charles Darwin Research Station. Also from here you can easily visit all the other attractions on Santa Cruz.
