Hostal La Posada Colonial

Colonial charm.

Overview

Setting

At the heart of Quito’s colonial centre.

A family run hostel set in a 400 year old building in the heart of the old section with real colonial style charm, and representing great value. The rooms are all spacious and tastefully decorated with a colonial touch.

Just one block away from Independence Square, the Presidential Palace, and in walking distance of the main attractions of the old section.

The only negative point of staying here is the noise from the streets below as the hostel does not have double glazing, but if you aren’t a light sleeper and are travelling on a budget this could be a great option.

Insider Knowledge
The suite, at $99 for the night is a real bargain, huge with a separate living and bedroom area with a king size bed. The only down side is the noise from the streets below. Another good option is room 6, a double room which has a balcony onto the street below.

Food & drink

American style breakfast is served in the central patio area. Although other meals are available we would definitely recommend taking advantage of one of the excellent restaurant at the Plaza Grande, which is literally around the corner from the hostel, so you can take advantage of the views over the Plaza, without paying the price tag for one of their suites. If you eat modestly here you could get away with spending around $30 per head for two courses with a glass of wine.
