When is the best time for a
Galapagos yacht charter?

There isn’t really a right answer to this question! Galapagos is a year round destination thanks to its location on the equator. Each month has its own highlights. Hopefully this month by month guide to the climate and the wildlife activity can help you decide the best time for your Galapagos holiday.

Worth mentioning is that if you want a Galapagos yacht charter in peak holiday seasons (Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving, Spring Break and Easter) you need to book as far in advance as possible. Often yachts are chartered for peak dates years in advance and many charge a premium for these dates.

Galapagos Island Yacht Charter Travel Guide

Using decades of experience organising Galapagos Island cruises and yacht charters, we will listen to what you want and then help you sort through your options and choose the Galapagos yacht that best matches your group size, interests, budget and time scale. As destination specialists for over 20 years our relationships with the Galapagos yacht owners combined with our unrivalled network of local contacts means we can offer an exceptional quality of experience for our Galapagos charter cruise guests and negotiate the best rates for our charter groups. We regularly also negotiate with the yacht owners so we can send our own naturalist guides to accompany our private yacht charter groups.

The best way to start planning your special Galapagos Islands yacht charter is to give us a call or contact us via email. We are genuinely delighted to answer any questions and help get you started planning your trip. But to get you started here are the answers to some frequently asked questions from guests looking to charter a private yacht in Galapagos.

How much does it cost for a Galapagos Island yacht charter?

The private charter of a Galapagos yacht varies according to the size and style of the yacht and the length of time of the cruise. Depending on the yacht, the rate we can negotiate and how many guests will be joining the party, a private Galapagos yacht charter can sometimes work out to cost quite a bit less per person than booking individual spaces on a normal scheduled cruise departure.

To give you an idea of the range of prices for a private charter in Galapagos on our curated collection of yachts, it can range from US$34,595, for a 5 day charter on tourist superior yacht with a capacity for 16 guests, right up to US$169,000 for a deluxe yacht charter for 8 days for up to 20 guests…. and of course everything in between!

Will All the Logistics be Taken Care of in Ecuador?

All Galapagos yachts have itineraries set by the Galapagos National Park and cruises do need to stick pretty tightly to the agreed routes. This works very well in terms of ensuring there are never too many visitors at any one time in any visitor sites and spreads the yachts evenly across the archipelago, but it does mean reduced flexibility in terms of our ability to make any changes to a Galapagos cruise itinerary. We can request small tweaks on the itinerary and maybe to change the odd island here and there, but they need to be negotiated in advance with the Galapagos National Park, and often carry a fee from the Galapagos National Park to approve any changes.

Where you do have flexibility in a private Galapagos charter is deciding some of the timings for your visits, for example you may wish to get up really early and have a visit before breakfast to get the very best light of the day if anyone is interested in photography, or before any other groups arrive to the islands. You may wish to spend longer snorkelling or try a few snorkel sites if they are permitted so there is some flexibility with that, but the actual islands visited and the afternoon and morning slots are usually set.

The good news is that the cruise itineraries that the yachts that we work with all provide a really good mix of Galapagos wildlife, and as part of our job to help select the best Galapagos charter cruise for your group, we will help identify which itineraries are the best fit for your groups interests.

Are the crew and guide included as part of a Galapagos yacht charter?
Yes, all the crew and Galapagos National Park guide are included with a Galapagos yacht charter. All the food and logistics are taken care of so you can just sit back and enjoy the amazing wildlife experience.
Where do we join the Galapagos Islands yacht charter?

The Galapagos Islands are located some 600 miles (1000) km off the coast of mainland Ecuador. There are no direct international flights to Galapagos, so every Galapagos cruise starts with a flight from mainland Ecuador, either the capital city of Quito in the Andes or Guayaquil on the coast. Most of the yachts we work with start and end the cruise in Baltra, a small islet in the centre of Galapagos which is where the main airport is, although some start and end in San Cristobal Island which is where the other main airport is located.

Can we have an all-inclusive drinks package?
Some yachts do offer the option to pay extra to have an all-inclusive drinks package as part of the yacht charter rate. These start from around $350 per person on an 8 day cruise.
